Joanne Cohen
Joanne was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. She attended Santa Clara University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in economics with a business minor and a credential from the Retail Management Institute.
After working in various capacities in retail and observing the fluctuations in the retail environment, Joanne decided to attended law school at McGeorge School of Law. At McGeorge, Joanne helped Franklin A. Gevurtz edit his textbook Business Planning. During the summer of her second year, she clerked at Sullivan, Roche & Johnson in San Francisco. She also volunteered at the Legal Aid Society. Joanne gave birth to her first daughter, Tikva, during her final year of law school, graduated, and then passed the Bar launching her career in law.
After passing the Bar, Joanne worked as an associate for the Fresno law firm of Crossland, Crossland, Chambers, McArthur & Lastreto until the firm disbanded, at which time she joined McCollum & Bunch, also located in Fresno. Although she loved hiking and camping with her family in nearby Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon, the summers were just hot enough that Joanne and her husband decided to move their growing family to La Mesa, California.
In 1997, Joanne and her then husband founded the Law Offices of Cohen & Cohen in La Mesa. Her practice focused on estate planning and corporate law as general counsel for Error Analysis, Inc. Once her three daughters were grown, Joanne and her ex-husband dissolved their marriage and law partnership. Joanne then focused on refining and expanding her skills under the mentorship of attorney Ron H. Oberndorfer, Of Counsel to Ewin Lambourne Law. Before retiring after 45 years of practice, Ron graciously helped Joanne to hone her skills in trust administration, and the formation and maintenance of business entities, including corporations and LLC’s. Joanne is currently an associate with Ewin Lambourne Law practicing in the areas of estate planning, trust administration, and business law. Joanne also serves as a court appointed attorney for proposed conservatees in limited conservatorship matters.
In her free time, Joanne tends her garden while listening to audiobooks, podcasts and music; walks her adorable dog, Stitch; walks to support charities such as the Anti-Defamation League and “Our House,” serving as Team Captain for to support NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness); bakes her own sourdough bread every weekend; and plays Wordle, Connections, Sudoku, Mini Crossword, and Keyword to keep her mind sharp.
Joanne looks forward to help make her clients’ lives as stress free as possible.
